Co-Owner Guide
How to share a pet as equals in MoaTails: invite your partner or family as an Owner, split the daily load, and stop the 'did you feed her?' texts.
Two People, One Pet, Zero Guesswork
If you share a pet with a partner, a roommate, or family, the Owner role makes you equals in the app. Both of you see the same calendar, both can log anything, and a dose one person marks done is instantly done for the other. This page covers how to set it up and how it works day to day.
Make Someone a Co-Owner
Open your pet's profile and go to the care team
Send an invite by link or email
Set their role to Owner
They create a free account if they don't have one, accept, and the pet shows up in their app with full access. Team members never need their own subscription; your plan covers the pet.
What a Co-Owner Can Do
Almost everything you can:
Add, edit, and complete anything on the calendar
Log weight, meds, and custom vitals
Upload and manage documents
Edit the pet's profile
Manage the rest of the care team, including inviting a sitter for the weekend
The one thing reserved for the Main Owner (whoever originally added the pet) is deleting the pet. Everything else is shared.
The point of co-ownership isn't dividing chores down the middle. It's that either of you can handle any moment, and the other one knows it's handled.
Whose Plan Counts?
Limits follow the Main Owner's plan. If you're on the free plan and your partner has Plus, make the Plus account the Main Owner so the pet gets the higher storage and reminder limits. A shared pet counts toward each person's pet total (3 on Free, 20 on Plus, 100 on Premium).
Handing a Pet Over for Good
If the primary owner needs to change permanently, the Main Owner can use Transfer Ownership on a co-owner. The other person becomes the primary owner and their plan takes over the limits; you stay on the team as an Owner. It can't be undone, so the app asks you to type the pet's name to confirm.
FAQ
Do we both get reminders? Yes. Each person controls their own notification settings, so one of you can get every nudge while the other only hears about missed meds.
What if we both log the same meal? The calendar shows who completed what and when, so doubles are easy to spot. Check the activity feed before re-logging if you're unsure.
Can a co-owner remove me? Owners can manage the care team, but the Main Owner role itself can only change through Transfer Ownership, with confirmation.
