What 'Unlimited' means on the MoaTails Premium plan, and how we handle the rare edge cases.

Fair Use Policy

Last updated: June 9, 2026

When we say Unlimited on the MoaTails Premium plan, we mean it the way most people mean it: no real user will ever hit a wall. But "infinity" does not exist in cloud software. We keep soft fair-use ceilings so a single account cannot accidentally (or deliberately) consume resources at a scale that affects everyone else.

This page exists so you know what those ceilings are.

What "Unlimited" looks like in practice

On the Premium plan, the soft ceilings are:

  • 100 pets per account (pets you own and pets shared with you count toward the same total)

  • 1,000,000 activities per pet (food logs, walks, medication doses, appointments, weights, every entry combined)

  • 100 collaborators per pet

  • 20 devices signed in to one account at a time. Sign in on a 21st and the oldest session is rotated out automatically.

The number of documents per pet is bounded only by your storage cap (below), so there is no separate document count to track.

These ceilings exist to keep MoaTails fast and reliable for everyone, not to limit how you care for your pets. For nearly every household they stay out of the way: someone with a few dogs, a senior cat, and years of careful records will never come near them. The people who do reach the 100-pet line are usually running something bigger than a household, like a rescue, a pet-sitting business, or a veterinary clinic. If that is you, we would rather help than put up a wall. The next section explains how.

The one limit that is genuinely capped

Storage: 10 GB on Premium, 1 GB on Plus, 50 MB on Free.

Storage is the one resource we do not market as unlimited, because storage cost is real and your bill is paid in actual bytes. Photos, vet PDFs, document scans, every attachment counts. The cap is the same on every tier in concept; only the number changes.

What happens if you approach a ceiling

Long before you hit any cap, the app will warn you in plain language. At around 80% of your storage cap or per-pet activity cap, you will receive both an email and an in-app notification (visible in the Notifications screen). You will have time to tidy things up, delete what you no longer need, or get in touch with us. We will never silently block a save or quietly cut you off.

If you legitimately need more

The whole point of these numbers is that real people do not hit them. But some users genuinely do: a rescue organisation taking in two hundred animals a year, a pet sitter running a small business with sixty clients on the books, a veterinary clinic piloting MoaTails for record sharing.

If that is you, email us at hello@moatails.com. Tell us what you are doing. We do not have a corporate-sales process or a long form to fill out. We will figure out an arrangement that works for both sides, often on the same day.

Your data is always yours

This one matters more than any number on this page: we will never lock you out of data you have already created.

If your usage exceeds a ceiling and you do not upgrade or contact us, you still keep full read and edit access to everything you have already added. You can delete things to come back under cap. You can export everything from Settings → Privacy & Data → Export My Data whenever you want, on any tier, including Free, no questions asked. The export is a single ZIP archive containing your account data as JSON together with the original photos, PDFs, and other attachment files you uploaded. We just will not accept new writes past the ceiling until something changes.

This is not a marketing promise. It is a product rule written into the code, and the place to verify it is your own account: try a downgrade and watch your data stay exactly where it is.

Changes to this policy

We can revise these numbers when our infrastructure changes. If we ever lower a ceiling, we will email every affected account, give plenty of notice, and never apply the lower limit retroactively to existing data. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
